Biomedical Device Research
Brian FitzGibbon graduated from the National University of Ireland, Galway with a first class honours B.E in Biomedical Engineering in 2015. His primary research focus to date has been in the area of computational biomechanics, specifically finite element modelling of aortic biomechanics. His thesis investigated
the effects of intraluminal thrombus, tortuosity, and wall thickness on the rupture potential of infrarenal aortic aneurysms.
He has now successfully attained a position as a PhD candidate in Biomedical Engineering in National University of Ireland, Galway with clinical supervision from the WVI. His present work focuses on the biomechanics of aortic dissection and its treatment using endovascular therapies.
